Stripe takes a standard fee on all card payments.
Amex charges an extra 2.5% on top of that for any payments made with their cards and made via card reader in store.
AMEX fees are not charged for online payments.
Understanding the Amex Fee on Your Cash-Up Report
When reviewing your Cash-Up report, you might notice an entry labeled as an Amex fee on the Slickpay via Strip table.
The Amex fee appears as a separate line item because it's only applied to specific transactions—those paid with an American Express (Amex) card.
Standard card processing fee: 1.29% is applied to all card payments.
Additional Amex fee: 2.5% is added only to the total of Amex card transactions.
For example:
A client pays £15.00 using Amex.
The Amex fee of £0.45 (2.5%) appears as a separate deduction.
This £15.00 payment is already included in your Client Bills total with the standard Stripe fees applied.
The £0.45 is shown separately to help track AMEX fees and deduct from your net payout.
It may look like the Amex fee was being added to your fees or double-counted. That’s not the case—the transaction is included once in Client Bills, and the Amex fee is simply broken out separately. Previously, AMEX fees were occasionally deducted separately as part of a temporary policy. Currently, these fees are aligned with Stripe’s regular payout schedule for easier management.
To make this clearer, we’ve added a note in the Cash-Up report explaining this. It shows like this at the bottom of the SlickPay via Stripe table. Recent updates to the AMEX fee deduction process ensure alignment with regular payouts, reducing discrepancies and aiding in clear reporting. For any ongoing or specific concerns, users are encouraged to verify their account settings or consult Stripe’s support team.
