Why is Stripe asking for Verification

Whether you're new, or an existing account - sometimes Stripe may need addition information to keep things going.

Don't worry - being asked to re-verify doesn't mean you've done anything wrong.

Stripe reviews accounts from time to time to keep them compliant with financial regulations. It's usually a quick job, and getting it done early keeps your payments and payouts flowing as normal. 💜

What is re-verification?

When you first set up SlickPay, Stripe verified your business and personal details before switching your payments on.

Re-verification is simply Stripe asking you to confirm or update that information again, or to upload a fresh document. It's a routine part of processing card payments and happens to businesses of all shapes and sizes.

Why has Stripe asked me to do this?

There are a few common reasons:

  • You're taking more payments than before - once your business passes certain processing volume thresholds, Stripe may ask to re-verify your details to stay in line with financial regulations.

  • Something on your documents has expired - ID documents and other verification details have expiry dates, so Stripe will ask for an up-to-date version.

  • You've added something new to your account - a change in business type, partners or payout method may prompt for additional verification.

  • The details don't quite match - if there's a discrepancy in the information held on your account (a name, address or date of birth that doesn't match, for example), Stripe will ask you to confirm the correct details.

  • Unusual activity on the account - if Stripe picks up a risk signal, they may ask you to re-verify as a precaution.

What happens if I don't do it?

If the information isn't provided in time, your account may move to a restricted status. When that happens, you won't be able to take payments through SlickPay, and payouts into your bank account will stop until it's resolved.

The good news is this is completely avoidable - as soon as you're asked, get the details over and your account carries on as normal.

How do I get it sorted?

  1. Log in to your Stripe account from the menu, Online Booking, eVouchers & Payments.

  2. On your Stripe dashboard, look for the Actions required or notification banner at the top of the page - this will tell you exactly what Stripe needs from you.

  3. Upload the requested documents or confirm the details.

  4. Keep an eye on your email inbox too. Stripe will email you directly about anything they need, so make sure those emails aren't sitting in your junk folder.

Note: your dashboard can take up to 24 hours to update once you've submitted everything.

Common questions

Why is Stripe asking me and not Slick?

Stripe is the payment processor behind SlickPay, so verification is handled directly by them. We can point you in the right direction, but the documents need to go to Stripe.

I've already verified my business - why again?

Verification isn't a one-off. Regulations require details to be reviewed periodically, and things like ID expiry dates or a growth in your takings can trigger a fresh check.

I'm not sure what document they want.

Your Stripe dashboard will list exactly what's needed under Actions required. If it's still not clear, Stripe's support team can confirm it for you here:
