The industry is changing! After the Budget news of 2025, a lot of salon owners are shifting to a Self Employed model or a hybrid of employed and self employed.

The NHBF released new guidance from HMRC to determine employment status, you can view this HERE

To ensure you avoid Disguised Employment risk and are HMRC Compliant by keeping self employed staff separate from the main business, follow these steps:

  1. Set Employment Status

In Menu > Staff & Business Settings > Staff Profiles and Logins, click on the staff member you want to change and amend their status from Employed to Self Employed

2. Set Remote Login Access

Still in Staff Profiles & Logins, ensure they are set to 'Remote login access' so that they can login and view their diary anywhere.

3. Set Access Permissions

You can now set that they can view only their own Cash Up and KPI's by clicking on 'Staff Access Permissions'' in the sidebar Menu.

From there you can select relevant Self Employed access levels so that they can view only their OWN Cash-Up and KPI's and edit their KPI metrics

This means that when they login to Cash Up or KPI's they will only see their own figures, see below:

4. Separate Self Employed Takings at Point of Sale

By using our Slickpay card reader, you can keep Self Employed takings and tips separate from the main business by sending their monies directly to their bank accounts which reduces any Disguised Employment risk from HMRC. You can view more info on Disguised Employment HERE

Whether they are rent a chairs or taking a % commission, we cater for both. You can view the different options and how they work HERE

5. Separate business only takings

View your business only takings by filtering by the Business view in Cash-Up

As ever, if you need any help with the above steps please contact Customer Support via the chat bubble in the bottom right hand corner of your Slick screen
